BS Psychology, Athlete, Coach, Graduate student attaining an MS in Psychology

Sara Schumacher is an athlete, a coach, and a graduate student specializing in performance psychology. These three areas of expertise combine to give her a powerful perspective. Her passion for helping athletes reach their full potential extends beyond the playing field and into every aspect of their lives. With a focus on mental clarity, personal growth, and a balanced approach to success, Sara’s work profoundly impacts the lives of those she mentors.

As a life-long competitive swimmer, and over 10 years coaching, she has gained invaluable insights into the psychological aspects of sports that would come to shape her understanding of personal and athletic success. Inspired by her coach, Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman, Sara learned the power of mental focus, emotional composure, and being present in the moment—principles she continues to apply throughout her career.

She has coached toddlers to adults, and beginners to seasoned athletes, in both private and public organizations. In 2022, Sara joined the Grand Canyon University (GCU) Club Swim Program as an Assistant Coach, where she has played a key role in leading the team to three consecutive regional titles and top-10 finishes at Nationals. Beyond her coaching expertise, Sara is deeply committed to her athletes' mental well-being. She leads annual mental health nights for the team, blending her sports psychology background with her passion for fostering a balanced, healthy approach to competition.

Her interest in neurology began after her first concussion during high school. It has propelled her curiosity about brain health and wellness and is a key foundation in her choice to study psychology. Sara holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Sports & Performance Psychology from Grand Canyon University and is currently pursuing her Master of Science in General Psychology, with plans to continue her academic journey toward a Ph.D. Her education complements her practical experience, making her a well-rounded coach, mentor, and future leader in the field of sports and performance psychology.
